Chromat looks are described as featuring strong architectural undertones in each collection and also pull from inspiration as varied as building scaffolding and body builders.
The designers Becca McCharen and Emily Kappes met while studying architecture at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. "Architecture school was very process oriented," says McCharen. "We did a lot of research about the context of a building before we designed it. We made many iterations of a single idea and then we edited them. And that is exactly what we do with our clothing designs." Drawing from their combined theoretical backgrounds in architecture and urban design, Chromat focuses on structural experiments for the human body.
